Of course, everyone knows beach ball: Two rackets made of thin wood or plastic, a ball – and off you go. But unfortunately the quality of the rackets, which you get at almost every beach kiosk in the world for a few euros, is not the best. This quickly spoils the fun, because the ball flies a maximum of five meters and if there is some wind, the beach ball set is usually almost useless.

At the same time, other nations demonstrate how it can be done. Frescobol is the name of the game in Brazil. There is a kind of popular sport, especially on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro. Also in Israel there is a special term for beach tennis: Matkot. It even applies there as the national sport. The bat is called Matka – and is made of wood. The goal is to keep the ball in play for as long as possible. Normally the game is played in pairs, but a match is also possible for three!
