The light Pestemal beach towel consist of 70% cotton and 30% hand-woven bamboo. This combination makes the towel a practical companion on the beach. With their size of 175 cm x 95 cm, they are also large enough to serve as a practical base for a picnic, for example.
The Pestemals are made in the Turkish Babadag using a loom and finally knotted by hand. In the second step, the towels are dyed and thus get their colorful design. The production of a real Pestemal therefore takes significantly longer than in mass production – but these cloths also keep what they promise: they are light, absorbent, quick-drying, robust and colourfast.
Pestemal is a traditional Turkish cloth that was originally used in the oriental steam bath (hammam). Men use it as a loincloth in the hammam, women use it as a kind of dress. Nowadays colored pestemals are often used on the beach as a towel, beach mat or wrap. The light bath towels can also be seen more and more in the sauna.
