The beach sport par excellence in Brazil (Frescobol), Israel (Matkot), Spain (Raquetas), South Africa and Italy. In Germany one knows a variant under the term beach ball . Incidentally, “Frescobol” comes from Portuguese and is made up of “fresco” (fresh) and “bol” (ball).

Frescobol – That’s how it’s played

The game forms for Frescobol, Beachball, Matkot and Raquetas

Together

The easiest way to play Frescobol is to keep the ball in play for as long as possible. The other player is now a partner instead of an opponent. The better the coordination between the two players gets, the faster the rallies go. With the specially adapted Frescobol balls you can also use the beach to let the ball bounce. The harder the sand (play close to the water) the better.

With a net

If you want to play against each other, it’s best to choose a beach volleyball court. Depending on the game time you can for example play up to 11 points and over several sets. A player gets a point if the ball hits the sand in the opponent’s half.

In a team

You can even play Frescobol with several players! It works well with three players: one player returns every ball, the other two alternate. You can also play a match with four players. If so, it’s best to use a net and play with alternating return. Analogous to beach volleyball.
